How To Remove a VIP and Related Tips.

In Part 1 and Part 2 of this topic, I showed you how to tag someone as a VIP and how to set up VIP Alerts. Today I’ll finish up on this topic with some additional tips.

Removing a VIP

iOS Devices (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch)

  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. From the Mailboxes screen, find the VIP row and then touch the blue info circle at the right.
  3. To delete a VIP, touch and hold their name and slide from right to left, then touch Delete. To delete several quickly, touch Edit at the top right and then touch the red circle to the left of each name, then touch Done.

MacOS Devices (Macs)

  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. Click on the VIP mailbox (or Command+2).
  3. Find an email from the VIP you wish to remove.
  4. In the header, either 1) click the star to the left of their name or 2) click the drop down arrow to the right of their name and choose Remove from VIPs.

Note: Removing the VIP designation from a contact does not change any information in the corresponding Contact card.


  • MacOS Mail: Use the Favorites Bar to filter by each VIP
    • Go to menu View/Show Favorites/Bar (or Command+Option+Shift+H)
    • Click the down arrow to the right of “VIPs”
  • iOS Mail: Search within VIPs
    • Go to the VIP mailbox
    • Touch VIP
    • Pull the screen down from the top and reveal the search window
    • Enter your search name or other term
  • iOS Mail: Use a filter with VIPs
    • Go to the VIP mailbox
    • Touch VIP
    • Then, at the bottom left, touch the filter icon
    • Then, in the center, touch Filter by: and touch the options you want
