Setting Up Your Medical ID on iPhone

Giving First Responders Access to Your Key Medical Information

Health App Icon

The Medical ID on your iPhone is available to first responders without unlocking your phone. It’s an important way to share information and emergency contacts should you be incapacitated.

To fill out your important medical information:

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. At the bottom right, touch “Medical ID.”
  3. Touch the “Show When Locked” option and slide it to on.
  4. Enter the info you want to be available to first responders, it includes
    • Photo
    • Name
    • Date of Birth
    • Medical Conditions
    • Medical Notes
    • Allergies & Reactions
    • Medications
    • Emergency Contacts
    • Blood Type
    • Organ Donor
    • Weight
    • Height
  5. Touch “Done” when you are finished.

To see the information as a first responder would, press the power button to see your lock screen and then swipe right. Touch the word “Emergency” then “Medical ID.” Your info will be shown. It is not possible to get to Medical ID edit mode this way.

Privacy Note

Any one who picks up your phone can access this info by following the steps above. So you may or may not want to put some information in your Medical ID. I do recommend, however, putting at least some basic info and a few emergency contacts and allowing that info to be accessible from the lock screen.
