Add a New Field to a Contact

Using the “Add Field” Option on iPhone/iPad and Mac

Contacts App iPhone

iPhone/iPad

  1. Open the Contacts app
  2. Add a new contact or choose a contact and touch “Edit.”
  3. Scroll down to “Add Field.”
  4. Touch a field on the list; choices include:
    • Prefix
    • Phonetic first name
    • Middle Name
    • Phonetic middle name
    • Phonetic last name
    • Pronunciation last name (helps Siri hear and pronounce the name correctly)
    • Maiden name
    • Suffix
    • Nickname (You can then use that name with Siri)
    • Job Title
    • Department

Mac

  1. Open the Contacts app
  2. Add a new contact or choose a contact and click “Edit.”
  3. Under the Card menu choose Add Field.
  4. Choose the appropriate field. In addition to the fields above, there are:
    • Phone
    • Email
    • URL
    • Birthday
    • Lunar Birthday
    • Date
    • Related Name (for adding relatives; great for family contacts)
    • Instant Message
    • Twitter
    • Profile
    • Address
  5. If you wish to have some of these fields appear as the default whenever you add a new contact, choose Edit Template and check the fields as you like. You can also find the Edit Template option with in Contacts preferences.
